Childhood Trauma

There are moments in life when we may feel frustrated or hurt without fully understanding the reasons behind these emotions. Often, these feelings arise as an emotional response to intense and stressful events that threaten or cause harm. This harm may directly impact the child or someone close to them. Trauma can result from a single incident or from multiple events occurring over time.

Some events that can cause trauma include:

1. Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.

2. Extreme poverty, homelessness, or a lack of basic needs.

3. Neglect—parental failure to fulfill obligations regarding the care and supervision of the child.

4. Divorce or separation from loved ones, caused by physical or emotional abandonment, or the death of a loved one.

7. Intimidation, caused by humiliation or bullying.

8. Violence—when the child witnesses or becomes a victim of domestic violence or community violence, or experiences a natural disaster.

However, childhood trauma does not determine a child's present or future. There is hope, and healing is possible.
